Smáralind's new dining area

Heimar is preparing to open a new dining area in Smáralind in the autumn of 2025

Extensive construction work is currently underway in the eastern part of Smáralind, where a new and elegant dining area will be developed. It is anticipated that 13 restaurants will open in the area by the end of 2025. The space will offer a diverse selection of eateries, ranging from fast food outlets to upscale dining establishments, some of which will also be open in the evenings.

Particular emphasis has been placed on creating a warm and refined atmosphere in the design of the dining area. With this new development, Smáralind's culinary offering will be significantly expanded, providing a wider range of options catering to various customer groups.

These changes are part of Heimar’s strategy to evolve Smáralind into a central hub where people can enjoy entertainment, meet others, and spend quality time over good food. Surveys among local residents and employees in the surrounding area have revealed strong demand for such a space. Smáralind has undergone significant transformation in the more than two decades since the shopping center first opened, and in the past five years, tens of thousands of square meters of commercial and residential space have been developed in the immediate vicinity.

The dining area is being designed by Basalt Architects, who also designed the Hafnartorg Gallery dining space in downtown Reykjavík. Heimar believes these developments will not only strengthen Smáralind as a destination but also appeal to new customer groups and deepen ties with the local community. Furthermore, the changes align well with Heimar’s long-term vision of creating a vibrant urban center where people live, work, and enjoy a broad range of services.
